Giving birth is one of the most exciting things that can happen in your life and is a normal life event. Whilst for some women the pregnancy and birth of their baby may require medical involvement, a normal birth can be achieved by the majority of women. This is the more natural and safest way to give birth for mum and baby.
Helping a woman have a normal birth can be influenced by the support she receives during her labour and delivery. With this in mind we have opened the Newcastle Birthing Centre - one of the largest birth centres in the country - which provides 24 hour care by midwives who are experts in supporting women towards a normal childbirth.
The whole birth centre experience is designed for mums-to-be who would like to have an active birth following an uncomplicated pregnancy. You will need to be between 37 & 42 weeks, expecting only one baby in a head down position. If you are considering choosing the birthing centre you should discuss your options with your consultant and or midwife first.
Our centre is part of The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and is only one of five in the UK to achieve 'Excellent' status for 11 consecutive years.
